Fishing ReportClick here for previous reports August 27, 2009
Hi All
Trout fishing has been yielding good reports from many different guides fishing the night time waking critters. During the day the usual smaller fish are being caught on dries and nymphs. The little scrappers out back have been scarfing down on bugs on the surface non stop most of the day lately trying to become big fish. Fun to watch...
Salmon fishing has been ranging from good to great for me the last few times out. We had gotten another "key" rain last weekend on Friday and Saturday 8/21 & 22 for a total of 2 " in my gauge.
![]() 8/19 -Had a trip with Bob Davis, a local Taxidermist.. Pine Oak Taxidermist on M-37. He won the trip at a raffle up at the Amvets Hall. The water was clearing and the fishing was getting tougher, we needed rain. We still managed to land 2 and had a few others on that put the wood to us. Had a great time getting to know one of my neighbors. He has done some some nice work on some game and fish mounts around the Lodge and for some of my clients. He's a very talented guy...
8/21 -Our trip was a bust because all 3 guys showed up without rain gear and in shorts. It poured all morning. It was a short trip, all were cold and wet. We hooked a few but they got off and then we headed in for a hot breakfast and a dry truck. The fishing wasn't all that great while it rained on Friday but the next day it was on fire.
![]() 8/22 - A friend and guide Jeff Bacon and I went out and it rained on and off and the wind was swirling. You never knew what direction the rain was coming from. The fishing was very good as new fish showed up and I will bet it was one of the best days I've had in August. Our landing ratio wasn't so hot but these August fish have been having there way with us. Like I said in a earlier reports the fish are on the big side this season. The flow has been cooler and heavier flow due to the good rain we have been blessed with this season so far.We landed 3 and had another in and out of the net and then that fish went crazy and got away like most did that day...
8/ 24 - Went fishing with friends Brad and John Robinson. Once again the hookups were heavy #'s the landing again wasn't so good. I lost 2 baits on this day both on fish just weaving there way through the log jams. Some of these fish have been unstoppable. Here's is a good story. One of the fish broke off 50' of my red braided line. We were fishing 3 bends away 1/8 of a mile down stream and I caught the red line on my lure. Then the line swam off.. darn it !!!That was my fish !!! Another 3 bends away 1/8 mile down stream John hooks into the line again. Now this time we are dumbfounded that this fish is haunting us but at the same time more determined than ever to get a hold of this line or tangle it in our hooks. First I started rowing up stream then John opened up the bail and fired the motor and the chase was on like in JAWS. We followed the fish upstream until he ran us thru a jam then the line pulled off the bait and was gone again...Any other day my hooks would have been embedded and tangled in the line and it would have been Fish- On. Just not this time ..Would have been great to get my bait back and landed the fish but that's the way the cookie crumbles...We landed 3 but opted to not take pictures and release them quickly..
8/26 - Another 1/2 " of rain overnight...Greg and Carrie, guest staying here at the Lodge, went for a short float yesterday after checking in. They went lower river and Carrie, 7 months pregnant, hooks and lands a nice Steelhead on a streamer. I can tell those 2 will be a excellent role model for there baby Girl on the way. Way to go Carrie ... Greg you know you are a lucky man...
I have trips booked this weekend and most days next week and there seems to be no shortage of fish. The bite is on and off depending on if there are moving up stream, sun, etc... Sometimes changing lures until you get a bite again and figure out which color they switched to. Lure Washer..There is no one color or one bait hooking all the fish..I'm always surprised how colors change day in and day out..I guess that is why they make so many different ones...
My open dates are August 30th.
Open Dates in September are 4,11,13,14,15,16,20,23
Tight lines
Clint
