Fishing ReportClick here for previous reports April 15, 2009
Hi All
It has been all about the sun up here. That's good for some, bad for others. We have been unlucky enough to have missed all the good moisture many have gotten down state the past 2 weeks. On Monday and Tuesday of this week, we did have some good cloud cover. The fish enjoyed this and were biting good. Then today the demon reared it's ugly head and it was much tougher. The webcam has been up around a week now and has been working good. Many have commented about it on the river in passing so the word is getting out somewhat. The river is low but not as bad as summer lows or even during some of our Salmon seasons in the past. I can easily row all day without touching bottom anywhere. The water is warming up I showed it at 45 to 47 deg.. Lately and the fish are hot and the tippets are light, the bugs and eggs are small all = camera shy fish.
![]() April 15th- Pete and I went in a mid section. Fishing was tough unless you got a early start. Some guys out ahead of us had good reports. A Brown to the boat and a few Steelhead on was the best we could do. All our steelhead broke us off. This section was just a little busy but plenty of water for everyone.
![]() April 14th- Pete and I went out a different mid section. Fishing was great! We had cloud cover with many fish to the net on both flies and hardware. We never saw another person the whole day except a person raking leaves and crap into the river which I wasn't to thrilled to see or fish behind.
![]() Easter Sunday April 12th- John Robinson and I went fun fishing on the MO. We had a late start and did the after noon shift after a big breakfast. The sun was out and it was another beautiful Easter Sunday. We fished a crossover first but never got into the sweet spot for there was a boat there. Second was a big hole and we caught a niceWalleye and a nice 14 " brown. We fished a few other spots and only touched a couple Steelhead but they were off quickly. We knew we were there for the worst part of the day 1 to 6 P.M. bright and sunny but it was great to stretch out and play on different water. Talked to a couple guides working that day and the bite was good that mourning but was short lived.
![]() April 9th-Took out Gary and Steve. We had a late start time because they froze the mourning before with a diffrent guide and were in good spirits with me.Very thankful all day to not be chill to the bone. The day started out slow but we fell into a good rotation and wound up with a great spot to finish out the day as the sun went down. We had many fish on but only one steelhead and a few trout to the net. Light tippets were most of the problem. As soon a I heaved up the hookup % went way down.
![]() April 8th-Took out Joe and John. Had a rough start getting on the water early and wound up walking in the first half of the mourning and did well. The rest of the day we floated and got into the boat rotation. The bite was flat the rest of the afternoon even thought we fished many good holes and pocket water spots. It was a good thing we went for the walk in the A.M before joining the flotilla.
![]() The fishing will improve with the next big rain. There is still many fish out in the lake wanting to come up but they are still waiting to be told. In the meantime overcast days or just getting out early mornings or late evening is a good idea. Streamer fishing is ok if you can get the fly a good distance aways from the boat with the right strip. Catching trout on a dry isn't out of the question either I have seen a few hatches with a couple decent trout feeding. With the water clarity trout will look and chase the streamer but they have been tough to convince they need to eat that greasy big mack when there is so much caveyare and fry pattie for ordurves. Everyone put on there headdresses and start beating there drums or what ever you do to make it rain and hopefully the second half of the run will show up. A good strong finish to the Steelhead season would be nice.
Tight Lines
Clint
